Merger Vote!

Northeast Family members will be voting on a merger with Self-Help Federal Credit Union.

Dear Member,

Northeast Family Federal Credit Union's Board of Directors is recommending a merger with Self-Help Federal Credit Union. A Special Meeting Notice with a Ballot was mailed to all Northeast Family members on Friday, March 7.  The member vote to merge will be on Monday, April 21, 2025. You must submit your ballot before 3 pm April 21 at either the North Windham or Manchester office or bring it to the Special Meeting on April 21 at 5 pm at the Manchester office, 233 Main Street, Manchester, CT.  With the members' approval, the merger will occur on May 1, 2025. If you cannot locate your ballot and would like one, find one here.

Your Board of Directors is committed to offering financial services that advance our members and communities. Our vision continues to be to realize our community's full potential. Northeast Family identified Self-Help as a merger partner that will move your credit union significantly toward this vision.  Self-Help’s mission is creating and protecting ownership and economic opportunity for all. Self-Help is also committed to Northeast Family's team. Staff will not change.  You will work with the same team you have come to know and trust.

What does change? Share rates have already increased considerably.  Effective March 10, Northeast Family increased share deposit rates to be comparable to those offered by Self-Help. On the merger date May 1, your credit union will stop charging nonsufficient funds, courtesy pay, and overdraft transfer fees.  Self-Help can offer more diverse services because they are much larger than Northeast Family. They are also a Community Development Financial Institution which allows them to offer more programs targeted to low-to-moderate income members.

For now, the credit union's systems will not change. You will continue to use the same account numbers, debit and credit cards, online banking, and other systems.  Changes will occur over time, and we will keep you informed as these changes are rolled out to the members.

If you would like to learn more, join us at our Credit Union Celebration on April 2, at 5 pm at the Manchester Country Club.  Stop in either office to get your ticket.  In addition to having an opportunity to learn about and discuss the proposed merger, we will be granting our annual Herb Arico Memorial Scholarships, a program that will continue after the merger.

If you have questions or wish to discuss further, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 860-646-8870 extension 123 or Engagement Leader Rob Delgado at [email protected] or 860-646-8870 extension 121.  Thank you for your continued commitment to your credit union.

In Cooperation,

Joanne Todd
